The primary purpose of a tie rod end is to enable tires to move horizontally and vertically. This plays a crucial role in providing optimal stability and maintaining the tires' operational life. During driving, the bumpy roads can affect the tires; however, the tied rod end is firmly secured to the car body and can still function sufficiently.
Tie rods and tie rod end ball joints are what connect the steering rack gearbox to the steering knuckles so the turning input from the driver makes its way to the wheels. Tie rods thread onto the steering rack to also allow for steering alignment adjustments to be made.
