OVERVIEW:

The primary purpose of a tie rod end is to move tires in both directions, thus determining steering control, safety, and tire life. In other words, during vehicle operation, the tie rod end is fundamental for carrying out both vertical and horizontal steering functions even with the bumps of an uneven road.

USES:

Tie rods and tie rod end ball joints are what connect the steering rack gearbox to the steering knuckles so the turning input from the driver makes its way to the wheels. Tie rods thread onto the steering rack to also allow for steering alignment adjustments to be made.
