OVERVIEW:

The primary purpose of a tie rod end is to exert horizontal and vertical leverage on the tires, thereby impacting driving stability, safety, and tire longevity. When traveling on uneven terrain, the tire is able to move and respond to the irregularities on the surface due to the tie rod end being firmly connected to the vehicle frame.

USES:

Tie rods and tie rod end ball joints are what connect the steering rack gearbox to the steering knuckles so the turning input from the driver makes its way to the wheels. Tie rods thread onto the steering rack to also allow for steering alignment adjustments to be made.
